OVER 30 YEARS WITH THE BLUES
The San Antonio Blues Society, Inc. is a Texas 501 not-for-profit corporation, founded in October 1990, established for the purpose of promoting and preserving blues music. Our mission: to grow the presence of blues music in San Antonio through educational programs and performance.
We support blues venues and blues artists through our promotional efforts and participation in blues-related activities and events. As well as hosting jam sessions where local and visiting artists can sit in and play, SABS also produces / co-produces shows showcasing local and international blues artists. We are always striving to encourage our community to appreciate the historical value and the enjoyment of blues music. We use our programs to fund and drive our Society.

  SAM BAIRD SCHOLARSHIP
This is a competition for local students preparing to graduate high school and looking to continue their musical ambitions. We look to award students for not only their musical ability but also for their scholastic achievements and extracurricular activities.     MORE INFO

  BLUES IN THE SCHOOLS
We bring the show to the students! Member Artists of our Society visit the schools and give a musical and historical presentation on Blues Music. These shows have been put on at elementary schools up to college campuses. There is zero charge to the schools. They are supported by our Members.     MORE INFO

  BLUES JAMS
Different SABS Member Bands host the monthly blues jams each month. A fine showcase of the blues artists of San Antonio and the area. These are open jams so we welcome any blues player that wants to get on stage and perform.     MORE INFO

FIESTA BLUES HERITAGE SERIES / ROBERT JOHNSON S.A. SESSIONS
Our two capital shows we produce every year. The Fiesta show happens right at the top of Fiesta San Antonio. It is a celebration of music and academia. We award the Sam Baird Scholarships at this event making it a very special day for many local families. RJSAS happens in November to celebrate the recordings Robert Johnson did here in San Antonio back in 1936 at the historical Sheraton-Gunter Hotel. He recorded 16 songs, including “Sweet Home Chicago”, “Cross Road Blues”, and “Ramblin’ on My Mind”. Robert Johnson has been inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. Twice.

  BLUES SHOWS CO-PRODUCTIONS
San Antonio welcomes many great national blues acts each year. SABS is proud to be involved with these shows  at Sam's, The Majestic Theatre, The Aztec Theatre, and The Tobin Center. We also back the blues shows at The Cove, The Gruene Grove, La Tuna Ice House, TexPop, and Rolling Oaks Mall.     MORE INFO
